Megan Coomer
I am a Ph.D. student who forms part of the Theoretical Systems Biology team at the University of Melbourne. The focus of my research is on building mathematical models to describe the underlying dynamics of complex biological systems.
I initially studied molecular biology where I worked on creating a novel diagnostic tool for the early detection of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and graduated with a first-class MSc in 2013. Following this, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry in developing bespoke biomarker assays for use in multi-site clinical trials. After 2.5 years in industry, I became increasingly aware of the need for powerful computational tools in the healthcare industry. I subsequently received a Queen’s Commonwealth Scholarship to study an MSc in theoretical systems biology at Imperial College, London where I graduated with distinction in 2018. Here, my research, amongst other topics, focussed on building mathematical models to describe cellular migration in 3D.
